Teenagers have a unique set of challenges they have to navigate. Physical changes and internal emotional shifts can result in inner turmoil, academic problems, family stress, and behavioral problems. Working with adolescents requires an approach that allows for a growing sense of autonomy while supporting and helping the teen develop into a successful, capable person.
I work with most problems that come up for teenagers, such as:
- School refusal
- Poor grades
- Peer problems
- Identity issues
- Family conflict
- Anger
- Defiance
Again, my approach includes working with parents or the school if indicated. Providing the adolescent a space to work through the many important issues they struggle with, including identity development, peer relationships, and family relationships, is pertinent to their growth.
